Therapy Intensives provide the same personalized and lasting healing as traditional talk therapy but in a deeper way and on a faster timeline.

What is a therapy intensive?

Intensives are prolonged sessions aimed at increasing the efficiency of processing. An intensive can help you feel less distress around traumatic events, negative core beliefs, or adverse life experiences rather quickly while simultaneously helping you learn skills for nervous system regulation. Intensives can focus on resolving a single issue or a list of issues. They can be done online via video call or in person. Sessions range from 3 hours to 6 hours per day with breaks of course. Typical intensives range from 1 to 5 days in length. Total length of session time depends on each client’s individual goals, scheduling, and pacing. This will be collaboratively determined with your therapist.

The economy is compelling: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on checking in at the beginning of each session, addressing current crises and concerns, focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.

What types of therapy are used during an intensive?

Heather mainly uses the treatment modalities of EMDR and Progressive Counting for intensives. She also pulls from Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, and Polyvagal Theory exercises. The intensive treatment plan is tailored to each individual client based on their goals and needs.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, performance anxiety, sleep disturbances, chronic pain, and stress reduction.

Progressive Counting (PC) is a research-supported psychotherapy procedure for healing from trauma or distressing memories. Briefly: the therapist counts out loud first to 10, then 20, then 30, etc., each time guiding the client to imagine a “movie” of the troubling memory from beginning to end. It is similar to EMDR in the way it consolidates neural networks and eases disturbance.

Your intensive will include:

20 minute consultation phone or video call to give information, answer your questions, screen for safety, and outline next steps.

90 minute appointment with assessments and personal history, as well as exploring unpleasant beliefs, body sensations, emotions, or images from which you are seeking relief.

3 hour – 6 hour sessions include a personalized treatment workbook, which allows you to work on your treatment goals before, during, and after our intensive sessions.

60 minute post-treatment session to review your positive changes from therapy. A summary note can be sent to your regular therapist if the intensive was an adjunct treatment.

What does a therapy intensive cost?

It is important to note that intensives are not typically covered by insurance and thus are self pay only. A deposit of half of the session cost is due after the free consultation if you decide to schedule.

  • Half day (3 hours) $675
  • Full day (6 hours) $1,350
